Chapelgate is a church that meets in Marriottsville, a community 20 minutes south and west of center-city Baltimore. We come from every walk of life and have a diversity of experiences and backgrounds. We are driven by values that are sometimes more like commitments that we barely cling to as we wrestle with faith and life in all its complexities.
Our Mission is to live out the Gospel in Word and Deed with the hope that God will bring Healing, Renewal and Peace to Greater Baltimore and the Nations for His Glory.
Healing
The Gospel teaches that Jesus Christ is the only true source of healing for individuals, relationships, families, communities, churches and nations. Chapelgate is a community of people, broken and poured out to a world in need of the healing power of the Gospel. Our desire is for Chapelgate to be a church in which people experience this power and then themselves to become healing agents.
Renewal
The Gospel is the announcement that the Kingdom of God has come through Jesus. The Death and Resurrection of Jesus ensures that those who follow Him in faith are made new and given the hope that one day every vestige of sin’s curse will be gone – in ‘the new heavens and the new earth.’ Our prayer is for a movement of Renewal to pour outside the walls of this church community through the transforming work of the Gospel among the people within this community.
Peace
The Gospel assures that when a person knows Jesus Christ by faith, there is reconciliation where there had once been alienation – that we are justified from our sin and given peace with God through Jesus. This peace is ‘other-worldly’ in that it penetrates through to our hearts regardless of our circumstances. We desire to be a ‘peacemaker’ in a tormented society and world that knows no peace and only searches where it cannot be found apart from Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
A Worshiping Community - Our worship is a festive and reflective celebration of the Gospel, a blend of Confession, Song, Reading and Preaching of the Word, and Sacrament. We meet for worship each Sunday at 9 & 10:30 AM and our services last around an hour and fifteen minutes.
LIFE Groups & Missional Communities – Chapelgate meets, not only corporately on Sunday, but also throughout the week, in Small Groups held in homes, coffee shops and church rooms – for the sake of fellowship, friendship, prayer and discipleship in God’s Word. On Sunday mornings, larger groupings of Adults come together for our Missional Communities, which are intended to provide a means of fellowship, instruction and shared mission. These groups enjoy Sunday mornings and other shared times of service, celebration and care outside their weekly meetings.
Greater Baltimore – Our vision involves the entirety of Greater Baltimore, with the hope that Chapelgate will be privileged to spawn a movement of new works that will exist as one body spread throughout and around the City – holding hands in ministry and mission, serving the communities they find themselves in – entering into needs, neighborhoods, lives and hearts through love and good works. Our desire is to be an authentic community that poured out into the beauty, brokenness and expressions of the City…
In 2008 we established Serve the City – Baltimore, a ministry that connects willing people to needed City causes. Chapelgate has also served for years with Sandtown Habitat for Humanity to assist in building hundreds of homes in the City. Our desire is to be an authentic community that speaks into the beauty, brokenness and expressions of the City, and to serve wherever needs may be as an influence of peace and wellness for the neighborhoods that define each community in Greater Baltimore.
