Day 18
Deuteronomy 24:19-22
“...the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow...”
Built into Old Testament Law was provision for those who could not care for themselves. Unlike Socialism, it was not a matter of forced, even-distribution, and unlike Capitalism, it was not an encouragement to get and keep all one could stockpile. Instead, it both allowed for people to successfully and prosper, and also to collectively care for the most vulnerable in society and the church community.
It would not be an overstatement to say that Chapelgate, like any other church community, would not be healthy unless it had people who are the beneficiaries of financial care and other needed benevolences. God built mercy into the Christian economy, and it is our responsibility to practice it.
How have you witnessed the generosity of God in the church (Chapelgate) in how it cares for those in need? How may this inspire you to greater generosity?
