“My life was radically changed and shaped through my week in Honduras with Breakaway. I saw both the ugliness of life in a broken world, but the beauty of the church and its impact on an entire city.”

FIRST MEETING: SUPPORT LETTER PREPARATION
At our first gathering on Sunday, February 25, we will be talking about the support raising process and talk about how you can prepare and send out your letters.

We will be going over the guidelines below and preparing you to send out your letters.

SUPPORT LETTER GUIDELINES:

  • Who do I ask support from

    1) Relatives

    2) Friends of the family and your parent's close friends

    3) Members of Chapelgate or other churches

    4) Neighbors

    5) Business owners

    5) Teachers at school

What do I include in my support letter?

Each support letter should include the following:

  • Support letter

  • Link: Chapelgate.org/honduras

    Additional:

  • Response envelope with Stamp

  • Donation Slip

    SUPPORT RAISING GUIDELINES

    1. The support raised is not for an individual. Rather it is raised for the team to attend the project. If one person's account is in excess then it will assist the deficit in another persons account. Therefore, if you are unable to attend after you have received support, that support will be used to cover the financial need of the project. No financial support is refundable nor can it be given in cash form to an individual.

    2. Providing that the financial obligation of the Nashville Project remains at a deficit due to the lack of incoming support, each participant is expected to financially cover the deficit of their portion before you leave for the project.

HOW DO I WRITE THE SUPPORT LETTER?

1) Write the person's name who you are sending the letter to in your own handwriting, put "Dear" in front of their name.

2) Write in the date you are writing the letter in the opposite corner.

3) After the information section, there is a space provided for you to write a personal note to that person in your own handwriting. This is very important. You can tell them about your excitement for the trip, what has been happening in school, or in sports, etc.

4) End the letter by signing your name so that they can read it.

Dear __________________

I am sending this letter to share with you my plans for participating in a short-term missions project this Summer. The youth ministry I am involved with (Breakaway) is planning to go to the capital city of Tegucigalpa (Tegus for short), Honduras to work with Iglessia Presbyteriana Gracia Soberana, a church plant in the heart of the city from July 6- July 13. The church is growing rapidly and has identified some key locations for new churches to be planted. Our team will be assisting in doing some of the ground work of seeing these churches planted by partnering with ministries that serve the poorest of the poor, working with children, adults and their families sharing the love of Jesus in both word and deed.

Each day the pastors and leaders of the church will give us opportunities to serve the community, and the city of Tegus with whatever needs they have. This could be anything from helping with English lessons, to doing work on the homes of the poor, assisting in Bible clubs and camps, to working with a community that serves both the mentally and physically disabled. The goal for our team is to further the work of the kingdom through supporting local church planting efforts.

To prepare for the trip I will receive training that will help me learn some basic info about Honduras as well as how to serve in a foreign context. This missions project will be an opportunity for me to grow closer to God as I share His love through my work and as I share my faith with people who come from radically different backgrounds than my own. As part of my training I am responsible for raising $1,800 - $2000 in financial support. This amount covers our flight, lodging, meals, on site transportation and everything else needed to assist us with our work.

I would greatly appreciate your prayer support for me during my training and while I am on the project. If you feel led to contribute to my financial needs, in addition to prayer, please return the enclosed card with your gift in the envelope provided. Your assistance is an excellent way to further God's love to others.

In His Grace,

(hand signed) Steve

Handwritten - P.S. - I miss seeing you and hope that you are well. I’m really excited about this opportunity. Please keep me in your prayers.
