James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

We studied the book of James in small group this fall, and this verse struck me as simply beautiful. I’m going through so much change in my personal life - loss, heartache, uncertainty - and the verse anchors me to the nature of God as so good, loving, and changeless.

Heavenly Father, how beautiful that the same God who hung the sun, stars, and moon, and all else that lights up the sky, cares for us. Your light shines even when we can’t see you, and you remain the Father of lights, age to age the same, no matter what changes or struggles we experience here on earth. Thank you for your steadfast goodness and love, which provide us with a constant source of comfort and assurance. Help us dwell in your light, rest in your goodness, and reflect grateful hearts in everything we do. In Your holy name, Amen.
