Psalm 28:8-9 The Lord is the strength of His people, He is the saving refuge of his anointed. Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

My mother had awakened the morning of our visit saying she was feeling well. That day we all gathered as family and even giggled over a birthday present. I have a treasured video of that laughter. When it was time to depart, Mom got into the driver’s seat and she and my father waved goodbye. Shortly down the road, Mom experienced a massive stroke and did not live through the rest of that day. I felt shocked, out of the loop from knowing God’s plan and honestly, betrayed by my friend and Savior. Many months later walking through grief, God impressed on my heart these words from this verse. I may not know what disruptions and sorrows a day may bring, but I experienced through this wrestling the Shepherd who cares and carries his anointed, even on days when it feels near impossible to walk.

Lord Jesus, no matter life’s circumstances or challenges, help me to remember your faithfulness and lean into you as my Shepherd and Savior, the one who strengthens and carries me forever. Amen.
