Day 4
2 Corinthians 9:1-15
“...God loves a cheerful giver.”
While the promise is that those who “sow bountifully will also reap bountifully,” Paul makes it clear that God desires for us to want to give, and not out of compulsion. He chases this promise with another, that “God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work,” and that “You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way...”
Giving cheerfully is like everything else in the Faith. We act in faith and find that God is already there, ready and waiting to bless and give us grace to serve through our finances - and cheerfully!
It is easy to be fearful when it comes to generosity, but when God frees us to give and serve cheerfully, the joy is hard to beat, and it’s always a blessing to work alongside cheerful givers. Whether in finance or service, the cheerful attitude is infectious. The volunteer who loves caring for our littlest ones in the nursery, the youth worker who brings excitement to their students, the army of people joyfully supporting the church, or the committee who cheerfully gave 10% of land-sale proceeds all add beauty to the gospel witness.
In what aspect of your life would you like for God to free you to cheerfully obey Him, and why is this sometimes so difficult?
