Day 8
John 6:1-11
“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?”
What makes feeding 5,000 people by Jesus miraculous is that he did it with a single lunch of fish and bread. What makes it precious is that a boy offered it to the Lord, who then divided it until all were fed, with plenty left over! God never asks us to give what we don’t have! He is the One who multiplies our offerings!
Among the stories of faith at Chapelgate was a day when the Congregation was forced to either compromise its belief in the scriptures, or walk away from a Sanctuary and property it had purchased and come to love. By God’s grace, the Leadership and Congregation voted to walk away. With little more than a few resources, it started over - and God blessed! Every church that God uses greatly comes to similar moments when they don’t have enough, but are reminded that Christ is sufficient for what He leads us to.
What might God be challenging you to entrust to Him to do great things with? Can you think of a time when this has been the case?
One Takeaway:
Prayer:
God,
this is a huge project. When we look at what we can give and compare it to what is needed, it can be overwhelming–like a handful of homeless fishermen considering the logistics of feeding thousands of guests. But this is a small thing for you. Give us the faithful obedience of your disciples, who followed as you led them in that endeavor, and give us the faithful generosity of that boy, who risked his own hunger for the chance to help those around him. You work miracles, and you allow us to participate in them. Thank you for offering us that joy. Give us the courage and trust to take hold of it.
Amen
