Day 9
1 Timothy 6:6-19
“...we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.”
The Bible never condemns wealth. In fact, prosperity was celebrated in Old Testament times, partly because it was an opportunity for generosity to be exercised. What the scriptures warn against is a love for money that becomes one’s obsession, to the extent that he or she loses perspective on who we are as God’s people, and on what matters.
Through the years at Chapelgate, many people of means have shown incredible generosity in helping fellow Members, funding initiatives, contributing to projects, the work of Benevolence, and improvements, along with faithful weekly offerings. In doing so, they demonstrated that Jesus is worthy of their tightest grip, and not their bank accounts.
In what ways might you struggle with the love of money, and how can you fight this as someone who follows Jesus?
